Simple question. How do I know the type of prop I have? Stainless? Aluminum? It looks like stainless, 3 blades, and only has a number 5241 stamped on it. Any ideas?
"Remove the prop nut and look at the face of the prop hub. There should be a part number and the actual ID of the prop diameter and pitch there."
Thanks but nope...did that already. No identification other than the 5241 stamped on the side. The sucker is heavy which leads me to believe it's stainless steel.
Stainless is MUCH harder than aluminum. Try scratching or dinging (or a file) it in an out of sight area. OR, some stainless is magnetic, some is not. Try a magnet against it. No aluminum is ever magnetic.
Prop rebuilders will sometimes stamp their props with their identification number during a rebuild process. It does not relate to any pitch number. Follow boobie's advice and send it to a prop shop-they and tell you what pitch it is.
Yeah... I think a prop shop is the only way. My other prop is black, much lighter and has the #s in the right place. This...nothing but it works well a least. ;-)
can you post a pic of the prop ?
is so show the prop closeup at the back and the front and the sides.
ive seen many that people say have no markings, then find them ?????
i have one that even i didnt know had numbers till i started to clean it up with wire wool.
Here are pictures of the prop; one with the # stamped on it. It was on a 90HP Johnson and worked well. I am parting out the motor and I know someone will ask what kind of prop. If nothing else, I will put it on the next 90. Thanks for looking.
