Prop installation - What am I missing?

Hi all,
A newbie question here so forgive my stupidness

engine details: Yamaha 75hp 2-stroke 2006

"One of my mates;)" removed the prop from my outboard. After putting everything back on, the cotter pin is not making any interaction with the locking nut. It seems like everything has gone in further along the propshaft and is leaving the pin out on its own.

Here is a link to a google picasaweb page with 4 pics.

http://picasaweb.google.com/galwayd...?authkey=Gv1sRgCMOqwp3J1OOdIA&feat=directlink

The 1st one shows the parts I have,
the 2nd one shows the orientation of the thrust washer going on the shaft,
the 3rd and 4th show the fully completed installation.
You will be able to see the cotter pin missing the nut entirely in the 4th one.

So, what have I done wrong or am I missing a part?

Thanks in advance,

Ray

Welcome to iboats.

The thin metal washer is the lock. You can leave the cotter pin in just to stop the nut from vanishing but you do have it assembled properly. Just bend down as many of the tabs as you can to grip the lower geared washer. You have the parts in the right order.

Just make sure you have not run the nut TOO tight against aht prop hub. If your tension is okay, then like Bob said, good to go...

Don't look right with that cotter pin hanging out there in the breeze, are you sure about that thrust washer, any other missing parts? Good Luck!
