1993 Johnson outboard. My prop was spinning slowly in neutral. So I adjusted the cable until it stopped spinning in neutral. Is it supposed to spin in neutral?

With the motor off, the prop should spin both ways in neutral. When the motor is running and in neutral, the prop may turn slow, in either direction, due to the pinon gear and forward and reverse gears moving with the engine spin.

sounds like you are running on muffs -- water spray spins the prop.

What motor ??-------NO and again no.----On the bigger motors it is the difference in the bearing arrangement on the gears !!----Forward gear has a bushing on the propshaft.----Reverse gear has a bearing in the propshaft bearing housing.----Just check it out.
