Hey guys and girls,
Having a porb with my my outboard. When i go to high revs the shaft spins but not the prop. At low revs it chugs along no worries. Ive done some research and been told i should get the prop re-honed because the rubber has dried out etc
Ive taken it off and looked at it but i dont understand how this works because the prop is on the shaft with grooved teeth so in theory it should spin. Is the shaft slipping and not the prop or does the rubber have to have a good soliod connection to the end plate when all tightened up for it to engage and spin. Dont want to buy a new prop if this isnt the issue..

Any help would be much apprecieated

Cheers Scotti

The spline part is fastened to blades with a rubber hub. ( most of the time) sounds like your hub is slipping. you can mark the hub and run it to see if it has slipped.

Yeah that tech'd up on the part names. Pressed into rear of prop is a big rubber seal that looks old & worn out. I got told I can get it re-hubbed but it can crack part of prop then I gota buy a new prop & pay for parts.
Am I best off just getting new prop & be done with it?? Will that def be the prob with motor revving & not spinning or could it be something else. It spins at high revs out of water with muffs on but not in the water.
Cheers

It will always spin at high rpm's out of the water because there is no load on the prop. Bond-o is right. For the price of a prop just replace the whole thing and no more worries.

If I were in your shoes I would get a new prop and then have the old one rehubbed to use as a spare.

In 11 years on here I don't recall anyone having a prop break when rehubbed. If your prop is old and worn a new one may be the better choice. Now is the time to fine tune your setup. You'll need a working tach and a gps for speed. Some cells have a gps app.
If you can find a dealer that will let you try props with the understanding your going to buy
You can test for the best performance. If you know your present rpm and speed we may be able to tell if your setup is working
and what might help.

You can use a drill to drill out the old rubber hub. Be careflu not to drill the prop They sell replacement sleeve kits with everything you need that just slides in and torque it down and your on your way. Find the right kit for your shaft http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=Prop+hub+kit&_sacat=0&_from=R40 This one is for OMC V6 V8 not sure it would work on the V4 http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMC-Cobra-K..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item1c2ec04da2&vxp=mtr
