Got a used boat. It is a 14 ft Lowe, 5.5 feet wide, 5 persons. It has a honda 15hp four stroke with a 3 gallon gas tank. It has a 9.25x9 prop (4 fin). I have a trolling motor on the front with a deep cycle battery located in the front. Just guessing weight wise around 350#. Motor runs great! However, i can't get the boat to plane or go faster than 10 mph. I have adjusted the trim pin in the back to see if it would help, it did but not by much. I don't have a tach on it, but you can tell that the motor is lugging. It didn't run much faster without the trolling motor/battery in the front.... Any help would be great.

Welcome to Iboats,

What's the max HP rated for that size boat ? A 15 seems way underpowered. To get the max performance out of underpowered OB's there are things to have in consideration as deck balance, trim, OB height, prop. Without an induction tach will be blindly guesssing best prop for that combo. Low wot rpm is lugging OB badly which is bad.

Buy an induction Hardline Hour/Tach model HR-8061-2, check Iboats, Amazon and then will go from there optimizing combo performance. Follow installation guidelines.

Happy Boating

The max HP for the boat is 25 HP. Tach set up and running. Idle around 700 rpm (or 1350 depending on what you have the tach set at). WOT 1500 rpm or around 3500 depending on what the tach is set at. Not sure what to do....i do think that the motor sits too low in the water. Ventilation plate sits about 4" under the water.
