I'm trying to replace a broken prop on my 88 Bayliner 1950(3.0L OMC Cobra). The prop I have is 13.25X17. My question is the price for a 3 blade aluminum ranges from $87 to $153, why choose one over another? Thanks in advacen for any advice.

Re: Prop Manufacturer

Chuck, there is not a lot of blade geometry designed into most aluminum propellers. BUT, there are Turning Point props that do have a lot of blade geometry builtin for higher rake and bow lifting, and most of the others will do a certain amount of stern lifting, some more than others, but there are some props with major differences in blade surface areas and this can make a lot of difference in prop slip and the amount of RPM they can turn even in the same pitch and diameter.

Re: Prop Manufacturer

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately most of that went over my head. I can appreciate the fact that you would need a lot more specifics (which I proably don't know) to really recommend a prop but would you steer away from any props in particular. Not real worried about top speed, general cruising, wakeboarding/tubing are main use.

Thanks again.

Re: Prop Manufacturer

Just trying to learn more info here. I've been reading about the rubber bushings in the prop. Does this "cheaper" prop have the rubber bushings? It looks like the more expensive ones do. I'd rather spend a few bucks to save the outdrive.

Re: Prop Manufacturer

It absolutely does, 99.9 % of all sterndrive props have them.
