Re: prop names

Do the names Chevrolet and Ford and Chrysler mean the cars are the same? Of course not. The only thing common about them is they both go down the road with people inside. Impala, Taurus and Sebring are all NAMES or models of specific cars from those manufacturers. Same for props. The NAME of the prop ("Rapture" for example) is the NAME of a stainless steel prop MANUFACTURED by Michigan Wheel. "Express" for example is a stainless prop manufactured by Turning Point propellers. Both are stainless props and both will perform differently even though both can be the same diameter and pitch which are only two of the many design characteristics of a prop. They will perform similarly, but not identically. Each manufacturer tweaks their designs for the performance curves they feel the buyer wants. So if you are looking for a stainless prop, do your research carefully. You generally get what you pay for. Lastly, a prop that performs well on one boat may not work worth a darn on another. You need to make some wide open throttle runs with an average load to see what RPM the engine turns and noted speed. This provides you with a base-line so you know what you need to look for in a new prop.
