Prop or trim?

I ran the boat for the first time this season with the 65 hp Johnson we put on it. The old 75hp we took off off had a 10 in. prop and this 65 has a 12 in. Accelerating away from the no wake zone it "digs in" and the bow is up really high. We moved the trim pin in 1 hole toward the boat and it seemed to help. I was thinking of putting the smaller prop on to give it a little less bite.

Do you mean and 10 and 12 inch diameter or pitch? Sounds as if the motor is mounted to low or the prop is too tall to build rpms and needs to go smaller.

The props are 10 and 12 inches in diameter. Prop is just below the hull so I think that part is ok

Try the 10" prop on it and see if things improve. When you consider that you've dropped 10 hp on the boat, in theory you will need a prop of the same or less diameter and possibly less pitch. Try posting in the prop forum on this site and the folks there will help you dial it in. You dont want to kill your motor by over propping it. BTW you will need a tachometer to determine the right prop selection.

Ok thanks for info. I will head over to the prop forum and check it out. Going change it to the 10 inch tomorrow.
