Help...

I am ordering a 2004 Four Winns 194 Funship and need to know if I will need the Duo prop set up as not to have any problems pulling heavy folks out of the H20 on skis... The dealer is not clear on the benefits or not of the Duo vs the Single SX. The engine is the Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI 270HP the boat is 21.3 LOA and 3600lbs dry... Any info or guidance would be appreciated because I can change my (options) up until next week.

Thanks in advance for your help...

Re: PROP PERFORMANCE???

MEADVIEW, I can't help but think your dealer should have a good answer for you on that...I would think that would be a question that the answer would roll right off his lips. I don't get it, I guess...they will gladly take your money but can't tell you the best (proper) set-up?????

Re: PROP PERFORMANCE???

Volvo was first with Duo's for 'consumer use'. The advantage is obvious - Merc followed asap.
The benefits claimed by the manufacturers ( Merc ) and Volvo seems to keep.
The only drawback is the price - both when purchasing the drive, when getting new props and when servicing the unit along the way.
Wonder if this is one of reasons you can still get a single-prop drive?

Renovating a lower unit for DuoProp involves more parts and more skill.

Re: PROP PERFORMANCE???

If it were me, and hole shots were the big concern, I'd stick with the single prop and buy a torque shift prop http://www.land-and-sea.com/

Watch the video there and you'll see why I say that. (Thanks to Bondo for turnig me on to them)

Side thrust is just not a big deal on I/Os to justify the cost and on-going expense of a duo-prop IMHO

Imagine how much hitting a rock would cost you with the dup-prop...how many techs can even fix it? How available are spare parts? Props? etc...

Just my .02

Re: PROP PERFORMANCE???

Thanks to all who have replied...
Ralph, I did look at the Torque shift prop video and will go that route if the std "single" prop set up proves to be ineffective.

UU, sorry about the double post.... new at this chat stuff.

Thanks Again / Meadview
