hey guys, on my 40hp johnson Model #RDS-28B i'm trying to get the pitch#. I have the original prop on there. Has these numbers on it. 10 3/8" x 18 1/8". Does that look right? I've been to a few boat shops and they look at me weird when i give them that #. All the boat shops tell me it should either be an 11 1/2 or a 13 1/2 pitch. NOW i'm confused, and the fact that it doesn't help that I don't own a repair manual either. I'm just providing what it says on the prop itself. Any suggestions? THanks

Re: Prop Pitch?

that was a racing prop for that vintage. 10 3/8 is the proper diameter. you really need to know what rpms your motor it running at wide open throttle, with the prop you have. i suspect, unless it is on a small light boat, or hydroplane, it is way over propped an not turning 4500 rpms.
