prop pitch

Have a 90 hp on a 16' ( actually 15' ) boat. At present it has a 14/20 prop. I find it revs pretty much wide open to reach about 40 mph. It has more than ample oomph to get out of the hole. Was wondering if I could change pitch to 22 for cruising at lower rpm without compromising take off abilities for skiing. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: prop pitch

We need the info requested in the stickys at the top of the prop forum to make any accurate suggestions.
Its important for the health of the motor ,best performance and economy that we get it right.
We can say that the motor needs to rev freely within its rpm range and forcing it to a lower rpm could actually make it harder for the motor to perform waste fuel and over time cause premature repair problems.
Depending on your present specs it could be possible to increase pitch.
