I have a '69 jrude 9.5hp with a three blade prop. I also have a '66 erude 6hp with a two blade prop. I know these two will physically intercahnge but will the three blade prop put too much strain on this 6hp motor. Will I see any performance gain or loss. Any help is greatly appreciated. -woody74

The prop on the 9 1/2 absorbs -+9 1/2 horse power
The prop on the 6 h/p absorbs -+6 h/p. Anything different and it's all downhill.
Backfire

so what you are saying is do not swap the prop regardless.

Re: Prop Q for 9.5 jrude...

because I would guess that the 9.5 hp prop could work on the 6hp motor but just not the other way around. I mean otherwise it would imply that a prop is supposed to have flex is this correct or not?

We need to stick to one post...we also have one in the jonrude forum. Both props are listed for the same applications...5.5 thru 10hp. Load on the engine will dictate which of the 4 props available will work...we don't know that the 2-blade is at the correct WOT range.

Should be stamped either on the side between 2 blades or on the aft end close to the shaft hole...

Kenny, on the aft end near the shaft hole I see what appears to be 10 or 1D or 01 or D1. Does this help?

Not really....they don't make a 10 pitch and I don't see anything under michigan, unless the 01 is the first 2 digits of 6 that would indicate a michigan wheel, but I need the other 4 numbers if that's the case....The OEM number would start with a 3 and is also a 6 digit number.

OK, this is a 8 1/4 X 8 1/2 three blade prop. My two blade prop os 8 X 7 1/4. I know this is a change but is is out of my 6hp capabilities. Thanks, -woody74

Probably, Woody. If the 9.5 was running right with that prop, it's going to lug the 6 hp down seriously.

I would have to agree in that situation, if we know the 9.5 wasn't over-reving...

Thanks guys,
The 9.5 is great with that prop and I'm gonna just use the 6 prop for the 6. There is only so much you can swap without getting into trouble huh? I'm currently on the lookout for a yamaha 15 preferably in the late '90s without oil inject. Maybe Ill sell the 6. Around how much should that motor go for, it is in pristine condition with little hours and always starts on the first pull.
