I have a 96 searay 190 with a 4.3 (carb) and an alpha 1 outdrive. My question is I replaced my 3 blade prop for a 14.5 17p blade. I only use my boat for wakeboarding. I hit 5000 rpm about 3/4 of the way down on the throttle. Is this a problem? Ive read that you should be able to push the throttle all the way down and just barely hit redline, I stay in the proper 4600-4800 rpm range when im cruising to my spots. My boat tops out at about 37mph before I hit 5000. It doesnt matter if i have 1 person in my boat or 8 I always max out rpms before i max out the throttle. Do I have the wrong prop?

It's a trade off. If you want holeshot for a wakeboardand/or eight passengers then you will hit redline while cruising at less than 100% throttle. A higher pitch prop will give you more top end speed but holeshot will suffer especially under heavy load.
I think you probably have the right prop for what you do.
Keep an eye on the tach and you will be fine.
