I took off the aluminum prop that was original with the engine,
I put on a stainless steel prop that the boat came with when i bought the boat.

would the wrong size pitched prop make the boat have elctrical overheating problems?

the boat runs great for about 20 minutes then it dies,it starts up fine then wont go above 1000 rpms,if the engine cools down enough it will run for 20 mins then die again,

COULD THIS BE FROM THE WRONG SIZE PROP?

THANKS,
MIKE

It is possible, if it is just overheating. Any electrical problems are a different problem.. If you tell us the pitch of the props, the power of the motor and the size of the boat, we can help more....

You did not mention whether you had a tach. If this prop is over revving the engine due to not enough pitch it could be your problem. Otherwise, I do not see it being prop related.

The engine is a 115 tower of power 6 cylinder
the boat is a 17 foot glasstream bass boat
im going to meausre the prop later,i believe its a 23 inch prop.

A 23" pitch prop on that boat+motor combo, is likely too much. I would think a 19 or even a 17" pitch prop is a better choice. A tach should indicate 5000RPMs with average load, and correct prop at WOT.
