Prop Question

I am wondering about getting a new prop. I have a 1987 or 1986 Force 125 Model 1258V7B on my boat. It has great holeshot and runs about 35 to 38 at WOT but I am only showing around 4500 RPM. I have read here that I should be getting another 1000 out of the motor to keep it from having too much of a load. Any suggestions on what size of prop to get and when I buy one what specs am I looking for. Sorry if this is a dumb question I am about 3 mos. experienced in boat owning. Thanks for your time.

Re: Prop Question

Not an expert but::
Before buying a prop you should check the accuracy of your tach.You may be able to borrow a tach from the marina to check and compare.Tell us where your antiventilation plate is in relation to the bottom of the boat.You may need to raise your motor vertically. Depending on where your at now you could gain 2-3 mph and a couple of hundred rpm.Also carefully adjust the trim to the best performance.You may want to check to be sure your throttle plates are opening all the way.
We need to know what make,size and style hull you have We also need to know what prop you are running now usually you can find a number like 12 X 17 or some such stamped on it.

Re: Prop Question

I have looked on the prop and can not find any stamped numbers. I am going to look harder tonight and see. The motor is on a 1986 VIP V Hull 16ft boat. I played with the trim at WOT and cannot get much more out of the RPM. Idle is about 500 to 700 on it, if that helps verify the accuracy of the Tach at all. I will look for the size I have now.

Re: Prop Question

Spike is right, more info would help.

If your tach is correct, you are right too - you need more RPM's.
