G'Day
im from a surf life saving club down under and we are purchasing new props for our 25hp tohatsu. The boat we use is an achilles 375 with an approximate load of around 160kg. We need quick acceleration in our beach conditions. what type of prop pitch would be best suited. It has to be 10 inches in diameter we currently use 10x12's but feel they don't accelerate fast enough. They also need to be four blade props. One suggestion is 10x9's would this be suitable.
thanx

Low gear LubeDude, use low.

BIG WATER going from a 12 to a 9 is a big jump, but it could be the right thing. It would also help to know:
What is your current maximum RPM?
Is top speed a concern at all?
How far do you go once you are on a plane?

Re: prop question

Top speed is not really a concern. It is mainly the ability to accelerate quickly once we have punched thru a wave that is required otherwise it can cause big problems for us. This is the main reason we were thinking of getting a 9.

Re: prop question

I would recommend you go the largest diameter available with 1"-2" less pitch.
Don't know your RPM range you operate in, but larger dia./lower pitch than what you have will help to get what you are looking for....how far down in pitch, I can't say for sure, but I feel a 10" pitch would help greatly, and if you can find bigger diameter, handling qualities would improve as well.
Please keep in mind the fact that we don't know your WOT capabilities, so some common sense will come into play when on plane.
