I hav ea few questions about props I have a 140 mercruiser I/O in a 1986 19' glastron cuddy. The prop I have now is a 19p 15 inch (I think) I want to get a new prop and keep the one I have as a spare. It is alum and pittted and nicked pretty bad. Question 1 How much difference would there be if I put on a 14.5" 19p alum prop? 2 How do I tell if I need a right or left hand prop? 3 If I go stainless do I keep the same size? 4 could I get more out of a different size prop? I get 42-5 miles per hour at 4600 rpm now. 5 what is a good price for a new and good used prop alum and stainless. The reason I ask about the 14.5" is because ther is a brand new one one ebay for 96.50 that ends in 15 hours but i want to make sure it will be ok for me thanks for taking the time to read all of this

Re: prop Question

Sound like you are in the ballpark right now for your set-up, but,

Question 1 How much difference would there be if I put on a 14.5" 19p alum prop? Answer: None, you really don't want to go down on diameter.

2 How do I tell if I need a right or left hand prop? answer: Right

3 If I go stainless do I keep the same size? Answer: You will have to experiment with a stainless prop. Probably would stay with the same Pitch for your situation!

4 could I get more out of a different size prop? I get 42-5 miles per hour at 4600 rpm now. Answer: Depends! Adrop to a 17" Pitch will get you 200 more RPM's and a better hole shot, but you may lose a couple of MPH on the top speed.

what is a good price for a new and good used prop alum and stainless. Answer: Alum:$150.00-$200.00-Stainless depend on which one you get and the area you are in. $300-400 Ballpark!

In the end, I would try a 15X17 Alum. and see how you like it. Just don't exceed the recommeded RPM's for your Motor! You may find a Prop shop that will let you try one out for free as long as you bring it back the way it went out! Good Luck,

Rick

Re: prop Question

Thanks for the info rick 4600 is the max RPM @ WOT. I will look around for some good used props and think I may try a 17 pitch (I use the boat for wakeboarding and skiing alot) and get the one I have rebuilt. How much should I expect to pay for that?
