I have a 14 7/8 X 21-M thats taken some punishment. on a 24ft center console Bay Scout with t-top, with a 2001 yamaha v225 saltwater series hpdi 0X66 (sx225txrz). I'm looking for the right 4 for blade aluminum prop. Can some one please assist me? I have my eye on a 14 x 20. Am I making the right decision? I need to get out the water quicker and stay on plane with less rpms. At the moment cant afford an ss prop. Iboats dont se?m to have what im looking for in 14 7/8's.since im going up to four blades my impression was i had to come down one pitch. Will the 14" diameter matter?

Top of the page under Boat parts and accessories. Click on props. Plug in your info. While you are there iboats has provided us with detailed information as to what to expect from various parameters of props.......makes for good reading. One thing that you need to watch is that unless you match the prop detail for detail, just changing the pitch may not get you the results you desire.

Assuming all the other parameters track between props, you are correct in dropping one inch in pitch for the added blade.

The 4 blade has more surface area so you can grab more water. Folks running 4 blades say that basically, a change of a model of prop from 3 to 4 and dropping an inch of pitch improves hole shot (assuming the engine is big enough to run it....your's is......and it improves handling in "just on plane" cruising attitudes......boat has less of a tendency to lurch.....flattens out on plane and speed increases too much, cut the throttle back to where you were and transom sinks and you fall off plane....advance the throttle to get back up and you run off.....etc. etc. etc.

Shouldn't notice it. The diameter is part of the overall prop design and changes as pitch changes to facilitate the function of the particular prop....... but the SS usually will. A Turning Point Hustler is a good selection of alum prop material.....i boats sells them. Main difference in that and SS is the alum casting material is softer than SS so the blades have to be thicker and in high speed applications, it makes a difference. To you probably not as you apparently aren't interested in dazzling speed and beating your last time out.
