I have an '82 Evnrude 50 horse,I am currently running a 12 1/4x15 prop that runs @4800-5000rpm WOT,what will switching to a 13 3/4x15 prop do for me?
I found one uber cheap so if it won't hurt anything I may go with it unless it will kill my top end completly.
I am pushing a 16' Sea Nymph aluminum v-bottom boat,loaded(i.e. heavy) and it runs @ 30 now.
Thanks in advance

Re: Prop Question

ITs gonna drop your rpm's a little, which by the way, are a bit low already. You will probably lose a couple mph.

You should really be looking for a 12 or 13 pitch prop, which will give you a better holeshot, and allow your engine to run at the recommended 5500 rpm.

Any possible loss of top end will be made up for, by the increased rpm. You might even gain a mph or two.

Re: Prop Question

If your 50hp has the small gearcase, which I'm confident it does, the 13 3/4" diam. prop is too wide and will decrease engine performance.Stay with the recommended diameters and pitch it to attain the recommended wot rpm that Roscoe mentioned.
