okay I'm sure this has been visited before.
But I'm wanting a better hole shot out of my 17' bow rider with a merc 3.0 and alpha 1 outdrive. I know I could drop prop pitches from 19 to a 17" but then I would turn high rpms, and since others will be using my boat I want to avoid that. So my question is. Cna you put a rev limiter on a 1990 3.0, or would simply porting the prop help? I'm already pushign the top end of recommend WOT range, so I surely don't want to drop pitch.

Re: prop questions / rev limiter.

Bill----update on my torque shift experiment.

Got a set of X cams and the 45 lb. springs.

Took the limit screws back flush with the hub.

Ran it, at 3/4 throttle got close to 5k rpm.---could not really feel it shift with the heavy springs.

Went to light springs--rpm still too high with x cams

Went back to z cams and heavy springs. Somehow, my son threw one of the springs. Luckily, he did not lose the blade.

Then I could not get the cam out of that blade that threw the spring. Tried to freeze it, picked at it with dental tool, heated it up a bit, nothing worked.

It is back at Land and Sea for a look.

Will post a new thread when I get it back for more testing.

boaterntexas---actually, Land & Sea has them priced right now at around $675. That is why I bought a new one. I have worked with their tech rep Jim on the phone and he is looking at mine right now. Call and see what is the best cam and blade setup for your boat so you know exactly what you are looking for on ebay or elswhere.

Mercury also makes one of these shifting props.

Send me your email address in case I decide to sell mine. doug.durako@countryfinancial.com
