i have a 1996 bass tracker 16ft avreage weight 700 to 900 maybe with steering wheel and live well that i just purchased and i had to rebuild carb and put new prop on b/c the old one was bent .i was unable to get info off of the old won also.it doesnt have a rpm gage eather.the motor is on its highist point on transom.it can come down two spots.new prop is 13 pitch 3 blad 10 3/8 .i purchased from iboats and this is wat they recommended.my question is does 30 mph seem right for this boat.it comes out of whole a little slow and has hardly any trim i can give it before it spins out.and spins out on turns with it trimmed barly .do i need to drop motor down maybe?does prop sound like right one i need? thanks eric

Re: prop questions

The caviation plate on the motor should be even with th bottom of the boat. What size motor is it . and your prop is it ss or alum. if you could put a tach. on it that sure would help determine if you are getting your WOT rpms. A ss prop will give you a little more speed because it has little flex . were a alum prop has alot of flex.

Re: prop questions

Sounds like the engine is a 40 - 50 HP Merc and for that engine the prop is generally accepted as the "standard" for that size boat and that motor. With no tachometer you will never know whether the prop is right but from experience, what you have is close and 30 MPH is in the ballpark for speed. engine height can affect blow out in turns as does trim. Try leaving the engine where it is but on sharp turns just trim in a bit to avoid the blowout. This is a common issue when optimizing a setup.

Re: prop questions

The cavation plate is a plate on the motor about 2-3'' above the prop. IT is probly 3-5'' wide and gets smaller towards the front of the motor
