Prop removal 1986 Bayliner

1986 Bayliner Capri 16' Volvo Penta aq131a, 275 outdrive

From the diagrams and such that I've looked at, it appears the Allen bolt comes out and that cone should slide out? The cone on my boat is in there very solid and I'm not sure if I'm missing something or I just need to use a bit more elbow grease. Thought I'd check here before breaking something. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The cone screws off after you bend all those little metal tabs out of the slots in the bottom of the cone.

When you put it back on, you'll need to bend them back into the slots again. Lots of fun.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure exactly what you're meaning though. What little metal tabs? The cone covers everything up.

I know nothing about the Volvo outdrives but looking in the parts section it appears the cone is a cosmetic cover over the prop nut and lock ring. It appears once the allen screw is removed the cone should come off.
Perhaps the cone threads over the nut and is held in place by the screw. Maybe the hole in the side of the cone is there to
put a screw driver into the hole as a handle to unscrew the cone??

Yes the cone unscrews out. Some have the locking ring option and have to straighten the tabs like Jestor68 mentioned but I think this option is only on some short hubs. Mine only has a spacer and plastic washer. So taking off the Allen head bolt then turning the cone shape nut with a screwdriver or tapered punch will require you to hold the prop and shaft from spinning. The spacer and the cone have slots that needs to line up before you crank the cone back on tight.
