prop removal

so tomorrow i want to take the prop off to take it to get re hubbed. i havent gotten my repair manual yet, and dont know much about outboards. can anyone tell me how to remove it? is it easy?

If its not jammed bad a rubber mallet should be fine ,hitting close to hub. If its stuck bad pullers ...cheap puller is a long nut( ABOUT 3 INCHES) thread almost all the way and give it a few good hits with a hammer ,this will pull prop out. can get them at hardware stores. or google boat prop nut pullers to give you an idea.

When hitting shaft pull back of prop with your other hand when hitting.

well, it looks like the previous owner had already taken it off once. it slid right off.


when i re install it, should i replace the rubber washer thing thats behind the prop on the output shaft?

Andy: I am not dissing you for lack of knowledge. But it amazes me that the previous owner would not tell you, as a new boater, how to remove the prop. I'll bet he didn't even tell you how to properly start the engine.

That's like selling an old Caddy that had the gas cap hidden under the tail light (you needed to pivot up the tail light) and not telling the buyer where the cap was.
