Hi everyone. I recently purchased a 1983 Celebrity boat with a Alpha One sterndrive. The prop is in need of repair or replacement. How do I tell what kind it is (pitch, size, etc)? No visible serial number on drive. I took some pics of it tonight. Thanks

While a good prop shop can probably do a great job on your prop; looking at the condition I wonder if a nice new Solas Amita might be a better choice.

I pulled the prop off and the number on it is 48-79576-21. Do I have to find one with this exact number? I know this has a 21 pitch. Should I stay with this pitch? What difference would say a 19 pitch do? Looking on Ebay, many props for Alpha drives, but not sure if a 1983 Alpha One is different than others? Dave

Would definitely recommend a new prop over trying to get that one fixed. The higher the pitch number the more bite the prop has in the water but the slower your engine RPM will be. You want a pitch that will allow your engine to turn up to the maximum recommended RPM's but no higher. If the prop on there now did that prior to getting banged up then stay with that pitch.

I second the vote for a nice Solas prop.

It would be helpful to know what motor is in your boat, as well what size the boat is.

All Alpha drives are the same in terms of props. A 19 pitch would provide faster acceleration and let the motor run 300-400 rpm faster at WOT. We can't say for certain whether the 21 pitch is the best choice without a test run to see what the WOT rpm is.

OK, I will go with a new Solas Rubex, but do I need LH or RH rotation? I have a 1983 17' Celebrity boat with a 470 Mercruiser and Alpha One sterndrive. The number on my old prop is 48-79576-21. Thanks everyone for all your help! Dave

standard vs counter rotation prop

standard vs counter rotation prop

What is the differance between standard rotation and counter rotation? I have Mercruiser Alpha One, 1983 17' Celebrity. Thanks

Update: Found answer, one of each is used on twin engines to help with steering and stability. Most single engines use standard or clockwise rotation.
