Just replaced my 2003 Mercury 25hp prop and the nut does not tighten up. Is this common?

Re: Prop Replacement

No, should always tighten up normally. Look at your orignal prop and the new prop. Are the centers where the prop slides on the shaft the same length? Is there a thrust washer on the orignal setup that is not on the replacement? There is something different and you will need to figure out what it is and we can help you. Perhaps a picture of the orignal prop and what came off with it and the new prop and what it comes with. Numbers off the orignal and new might tell someone something as well.

Re: Prop Replacement

Thanks alot for your tip. I checked nut, which is plastic, and threads were stripped. Called local dealer and they sell them for $1.25 for a pack of two. Seems to be a common problem. Only thing I can figure out is by using plastic, it serves as kind of a sheer pin? Thanks again for the fast thoughts.
