Re: Prop Scan ?

I know next to nothing about "prop scan".I'm sure it is effective.I think for practical purposes its intended more for high tech or larger size props than for say a 40 hp outboard. Imo savings/improvement over a new or carefully done rebuild would normally be mimimal
and more gained on larger or high tech applications. While I believe fuel savings can sometimes be impressive I think typically
would take a long time make up the cost.Though at todays fuel prices maybe not so long. Just my thoughts from experience and very minimal information.

Re: Prop Scan ?

Someone should be along with better Prop Scan info but consider this.
Your twins will use about 30 gallons per hour @ wot.Regardless of the prop or what you are pushing.
The mpg improvement is made by being able to go faster at a given throttle setting.
Assuming a wot speed of 30 before prop scan and assuming 35 mph after scan, probably a stretch assuming a proper setup in the first place, you would comeplete 30 miles in about 51 minutes saving about 4.5 gallons. thats at wot. Is that about $24 Don't know present marina gas prices. I used those numbers for easy calculation.
Its not out of the question you could improve your speed a couple of mph just by refining your setup.

Like I said: my props are a little rough, so I'll have them done somewhere. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Prop Scan Tech. because the place ain't too far from me - 40, miles. My boat does somewhere around 45mph as is,
29mph with one motor up.

Re: Prop Scan ?

Yes, I had a prop done at Black Dog, and a number of my friends have as well. A+ place IMO.
PropScan uses computer technology unstead of wooden gauging blocks to tune a prop, making it as efficient as possible.
Go for it!
