1988 Bayliner Cobra 2250, OMC 5.7L, OMC outdrive. Anyone have advice on the best prop for this boat, right now she takes a while to get out of the hole and once on plane seems to need a little more speed than she has.

Re: Prop selection for speed

Howdy, Christopher,

Selecting a prop is like selecting a rear end ratio for a truck.

If you go too short you will have great accelleration and blow the engine by over-revving.

If you select too long you will overload your engine and not get to the best operating rpm range.

Either way you shorten engine life.

Prop your boat for operation within the correct operating range at WOT.

If you have engine problems or hull problems it may tempt you to compensate with an incorrect prop. Be sure your engine and hull are in good tune before even evaluating your prop.

Good luck. :)

just to let you know I have the same boat and I us a 14.25-21 3 blade for the most part top end 50+ mph and a4 blade 14.50-19 for pulling tubs and sking good out of the hole but if you want top end only I would go with a 14.50-21 4 blade good luck send some pics of your boat as the in side are not the same on all Bruce
