Prop selection!?!?!?

OK. What Mercruiser prop is good for my boat. I am running a 2001 Chaparral 216SSi with a Mercruiser 5.7EFI 260hp, Alpha genII drive, 19" 3 blade stock aluminum prop. I am missing my top end RPM by about 300rpm. I am experiencing blowout on turns with moderate trim up. I cruise and tow skiers. I am looking for some better performance atthe top end for hot-rodding around, but "mommy" whats to keep it nice for crusing. 3,4 or 5 blade. Help!

If you are already 300 RPM shy on top end, you have reached your top speed already. My thoughts were to go to a 17"p stainless to get the RPM up where it should be. the 17" will give a better hole shot, and might not be too far from the top speed you have now if you select the right prop. :D

I have a 2002 220SSI was having the same problem. Your hull is prety much the same hull as mine. But my OEM prop was 14.25 X 21P. I went to a 4 blade 14 X 20P aluminum, because it was only $160 and I wasn't sure it would be the right prop, got better hole shot and the boat planes at a slower speet for wakebording. I am going to try a 14 X 18" because my RPMs max out at 4200 and I should be getting 4400-4800. I priced SS but they are $450-$500

What is your speed at 4200? Did you try the 14x18 prop? What engine were you running?

Might want to look at dates before you reply to a post timyerby, this thread is from 2003. I'm sure he has the problem taken care of by now.
