Yamaha 1992 C40 2 cycle, but guess it really doesn't matter what the outboard is, top drive shaft seal failed, actually partially destroyed itself, in the lower unit and didn't notice it until the gear box started to whine. I have the lower unit disassembled and it appears the top drive shaft bearing was the one doing the singing. I could use some advice regarding the prop shaft roller bearing race. There was some buildup on the race that I polished off with plastic scrubby. There also is a few very small pits in the race I would say smaller than the head of a pin. Unless I am talked out of it I am thinking about reusing the shaft anyway, would you?

Yes. Unless your life depends on it or it takes 18 days of constant work, and costs 3 virgins, an arm, two legs, and a gross of goats to get the shaft in then back out.
