hello everyone, I could really use your input. I have been asking around for the manufacturers prop size for a used 2000 90hp Johnson motor that i recently got. I keep getting different suggestions on the size but I'm looking for the original proper manufacturers suggested prop size.

Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Thanks

Simon

Welcome, There generaly isnt manufacturers prop sizes. Prop size, or pitch depends on the size boat, and load. On my 16ft glass boat, i run a 17pitch SST. Read the READ THIS FIRST, and let us know what you are trying to do, or what it isnt doing.

I would say typical sizes are 17 or 19.As suggested it depends on the boat, typical load and activities.A pontoon might use a 13" prop
And a light fast boat maybe a 21" or more.

thank for the imput, my motor is on a 16 foot skeeter bass boat. The prop on it is a 21 and the recommendations I have got from the prop dealers is 16, 17, 19, 22, and 13. so you can see my problem. The boat runs at 45 mph and is up on plain in about 2 sec but I am going to buy a ss prop. so everyone says to start with the stock size and go from their. Any ideas of what might be the best for a bass boat?
thanks Simon

The Skeeter is generally considered light and fast boat so your 21 seems a reasonable starting point.
We still need the info requested in the stickys at the top of the forum to determine if your present setup is working.
We especially need your wot rpm and speed.

sorry its been a while since I had it in the water so the speed at wot is 44.3mph and the rpm is at 5000rpm now the motor sound like its running fine and not over reving but I am not a mechanic. I don't want to kill my motor so are there any suggestions. thanks

Your engine rpm range is 4500-5500. Right now you are in the middle of it. Where is the antiventilation plate in regards to the bottom of the boat? Below it, even with it, above it?

just below the hull about 3inchs. I found when I raised the jack plate up to bring it any closer the prop would wash out in any sort of a corner.

Usually on a bass boat with the proper prop you can run 2 -3 inches above the bottom of the hull with no problem. When I say proper I don't mean a SS that is pretty much the same as the Al prop. A Raker, Mercury Enertia, LaserII, Trophy Plus and commonly used on bass boats

If its any help, I have a 16' Glastron outfitted with a 1997 90 Johnson SPL. I am running a 13.25 x 17" Solas prop - WOT 42 MPH (GPS) @ 5600 RPM (with wife and dog on board). Your boat is likely lighter than mine, so your results will be different than mine - but it gives you a measure.

Also, when I purchased the boat, it had a 14 x 17" prop and I was getting 36 MPH @ 5200 RPM WOT
