I HAVE A 1978 17FT BAYLINER 470/170HP.WHAT SIZE PROP CAME WITH IT. AND HOW FAST SHOULD IT RUN.NOW IT RUNS ABOUT 33MP.IS THAT ABOUT RIGHT.THANKS

What you need to figure out is what the maximum rpm is for that engine and use a prop that will make it rev south of that maximum.

It seems a little slow...maybe could be 3-7 miles an hour faster in an empty boat. Is it trimmed right?

Hmm. I think the 19ft bayliner with the OMC 3.0 (140hp) does 44mph top speed 'out of the box', I would think the 170hp on a 17ft should push a bit over 50mph, no? Am I missing something?
