What prop size would be correct for a Bayliner 2152 wa Trophy 4.3 carb engine. Proper RPM range at full throttle?
What came on the boat with a new outdrive installed was 19-1/2 17P Thanks in advance.

Re: Prop size

Bud, What outdrive does that have on it? Some were MerCruisers and early ones were V-P, if I remember correctly. The type of OD and year will give us the gear ratio. We can then maybe recommend a prop.

Re: Prop size

I think the Boat is a 2000 and the out drive is an Alpha 1
number on the prop is 19 1.2 17p
I am thinking with this prop I am over reving the engine at full throttle, on flat water it will run about 5400
to 5500. What should we want with the correct prop?

Re: Prop size

you can't fit a 19.5" diameter prop on an alpha, clean it up a little, it's probably 14.5 x 17p.

Re: Prop size

We need your wot rpm and gps speed to tell how your setup is working. 17" prop at 5500 would make about 49 mph.
That would feel like you are flying on the water and the motor would sound like its going into orbit.
Hole shot probably like being shot out of a cannon.
Possible but before a prop change you should confirm the tach is accurate.
4800 is typical for a 190 hp 4.3. If the tach is accurate a 21" prop should put you at about 4700.

Re: Prop size

I looked at the prop again and wrote down the numbers. (I even put on the readers.)
On the side QA1912x 17P and in the exhaust end number is 15x 17P
It is an alpha 1 Drive Ratio 1.86

Re: Prop size

It is a 15 X 17 prop.I believe the QA1912x is a Merc part number.
Your 1.86 ratio makes your 5500 rpm more reasonable and a prop change may solve things.speed at 5500 could be about 42.
Again a 21" pitch would put you at about 4700.
Perhaps the 17 is on there for heavily loaded water sports.

Re: Prop size

Running at wot the GPS reads about 32 SOG 5500-5600 RPM

Why does mercury go down in diameter when you go up in pitch? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?
