Hi,
My 1996 mariner 60hp bigfoot 2/s, has always spun the prop when in neutral on the muffs(not spinning fast, just 1 rev per 2 seconds), it is now not spinning the prop anymore but does seem to make a small ticking sound, which goes away when put in gear.

Should the prop spin slowly in neutral or not, and what do you think the ticking is?

Cheers
Ross

Re: prop spinning in neutral

Most props will spin in neutral when the engine is running.

This is caused by vibration and the exhaust leaving the engine.

Some spin forward...some spin backward.

The ticking you hear is likely the gear and clutch lightly hitting one another.

You may need to adjust the shifter.

TMD
