Prop Spins Slowly In Neutral On Trailer

Just installed a used 1999 Yamaha C115 last year. I noticed that sometimes the prop spins slowly while in neutral on the trailer. If you move the throttle up & down just a little bit it will stop. Is this normal? Can it be adjusted? Sign of a problem? Etc.

Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />Put it in gear if you're concerned. Otherwise it'll turn more in 5 minutes at full throttle in the water than if you took a coast to coast trip on the trailer.

this is normal, it is the force of the exhaust thru the prop. they usually don't due this in the water, as the water cause more friction, than air.

Hi Micheal,<br /><br />I think this is normal behavior too. My theory is that on the propellor shaft you have a shift clutch that sides back and forth to engage fwd or rev gear. In neutral the gears rotate but have no contact with the shift clutch. Practically the shift clutch must be closer to one gear than the other and the oil transfers a little torque to it causing slow rotation of the prop shaft. because it stops if you move the throttle, its close to perfect.<br />have fun on the water!
