Hi
My old Sriper 23 WA runs about right on a 15/17 aluminium prop, although the 14 year old 200 Oceanpro only gets up to 4000 rpm , around 34 knots. The prop is now getting a bit scruffy.
If I replace it with a SS prop would I keep the same size and would there be any advantage/ problem?

Sounds like you are already overpropped to me, interd0g. I will move this to the prop forum.

Ayuh,... So drop some pitch, 'n get it runnin' where it oughta be...

Btw,... SSteel props are over-rated for normal everyday boatin'...
Improved efficiency rarely translates to better fuel economy, 'n prop strikes usually mean something more expensive gets Broken...

I wonder how accurate your tach is... Regardless, it sounds like you over propped and switching to the same pitch in ss will only amplify this. A 15p stainless wheel might be the ticket for you. I used to have a 21 ft Offshore (deep V cc hull) with a 98 200 ocean pro and I ran a 15/17p stainless prop. It turned 5600 rpms at 46mph (about 40kts im guessing).

If your motor is in fact only getting 4000 rpm at WOT, you need to drop a bunch of pitch in order to get within your recommended rpm range of 4500-5500 rpm.

It sounds like your 14 year old motor has lost some of it's get up and go. It happens. Unless you can get your Johnson to put out more umph, the only alternative is to reduce pitch.

I recommend a Solas Rubex 3 (aluminum) 16 X 13 pitch to get your rpm up to about 4800 rpm and deliver excellent thrust to move your heavy boat.

No need to spend extra $ for a SS.
