I have a 1993 25 hp Mariner long shaft. Currently there is a 10in., 3 blade, 13 pitch prop on the boat. It is on a 16ft Sylvan side console. It it a small motor for that boat but the reservoir I fish has a hp restriction. The motor needs a new prop and I want to buy one that will give me the best top end speed. Will a different pitch or size get me more speed???? What pitch should I look at getting???? Unfortunately there is no tach on the boat.

Without Max rpm and speed its really crap shoot. The wrong prop/rpm could spell premature maintenance problems and/or engine failure. With the possibility of poor performance and mileage. You may be able to borrow a shop tach especially if you buy your prop there.A tiny tach is reasonable, easy to install and will fit any similar 2 stroke. You could borrow a gps for accurate speed. Also would help to know your typical load.

Thanks steel. I was afreaid I would hear the crapshoot words. I guess my best bet would be to bring it to the local boat shop and have him install a tach and get a prop from him. Talking to someone with knowledge on the subject is always a good idea.

A shop can do a shop tach. The Tiny tach is an easy install if you have the slightest mechanical ability. You just need to be clear about your application.

Are the TIny Tachs accurate???? I already have the gas gauge hooked up on the console, I could just daisy chain the ground and +12V and hook the gray wire coming out of the control box to a new teleflex or similar tach too right????
