Should I be able to turn the prop backward when it's in drive? Heard no...heard yes.

I clunks when I do it.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Adjusted right, when the gear shift is in forward the prop will be trying to turn the engine when turn CCW, or backwards. So no, in forward you should not be able to turn the prop CCW. In reverse you will not be able to turn the prop CW.

In forward it should ratchet forward, lock backwards. In reverse it should ratchet backwards, lock forward.

If it's clicking when turned backwards in forward, it's jumping the dogs (clutch) because the adjustment is out.

Like the manual says, apply pressure CCW to hold in forward gear. It shouldn't move when in forward gear. Of course, this section is about lining everything up in forward gear before dropping the upper case onto the lower case.

Think about it this way, when power is applied to the prop in forward gear, the rotation is clockwise. If the prop could slip back CCW, no power could be applied.

Odd, but a lot of people seem to have a problem with this concept. :noidea:
