Hi All,

I have a 1995 Evinrude 115 Crossflow on a 17' Sunbird fiberglass boat. The package weighs in at about 2000 lbs or less on the water.

I am running a nicked up 15p aluminum prop and can turn 5800-6000 rpms, depending on load. This should leave me with the required 200-300 RPM decrease on a 17p prop to hit the average 5500 RPMs where my motor makes its peak HP.

I would like some better performance, however not looking for SS because of price/damage control. I cruise, tube, ski with the boat.

My questions are as follows:

1. Would moving to a 17P prop improve both hole shot and top speed?
2. As this is a V4, non looper, I want to be sure to get the right set up should I buy used. There are 2 types of V4's, one with the v6 lower unit which is a looper or v6 version I believe, any comments or clarification would be great.

Just as a side note, I can get about 35-38 on the speedo, however I know this is unreliable, it does not even register till I get up on plane. I think I am close, but not sure.

Thanks and Best Regards,

MS

Re: Prop Upgrade Questions

Not an expert but I'll get you started.
You might take a look at the Turning Point Hustler; there is a first hand report posted here on the prop forum. It appears to be an aluminum prop with close to stainless performance.Usually when going to a higher pitch you would lose hole shot but going from a beat up to something like the hustler
you should get an over all improvement. There is also a report of cleaning and polishing an aluminum prop and getting back full performance plus.
