Prop Ventilation Issue

I have a 1987 Regal 233xl. When I begin to trim the boat out on plane, there will come a time when the engine begins to rev up quickly. I have to pull back or trim down. I am not trimming up excessively. I am running a 15x19 Alum prop. Any suggestions. Thanks Roman

Re: Prop Ventilation Issue

Not knowing that boat I assume you're wearing the correct prop for the conditions.
I guess since you've got onto the plane that it isn't a spun hub. Rather it sounds like cavitation.
If you have a jack plate then try and lower the prop height and see if that works. If you don't have a jack plate then beg, borrow, or buy a decent Dolefin or Permatrim or some other type of metal plate that bolts onto the outboard and stops that problem.
Ross

Re: Prop Ventilation Issue

Hi, Roman.

If your prop is ventilating (sounds like it is) you are trimming out excessively for that prop and that boat balance.

Sometimes a shorter pitch prop can reduce this, but the better solution is to get your propshaft a bit deeper. Maybe a bit more of the weight aft?

Good luck. :)
