ive got a 1979 mercury 7.5 hp . im trying to change the prop seal , i took the propeller nut off and tried to beat the prop off with a rubber mallet, that dang thing would not move a millimeter. is there a prop press or something where you clamp on to the prop and then wind down on the shaft and pull the prop off that way. cutting the prop off would be my last resort.

Some auto supply stores rent bearing pullers that may fit around the backside of that prop. Unfortunately, if that prop has not brrn removed a lot of heat from a plumbers torch directly on the hub may be required to get that bad boy to move!

Locknut, As a last resort, you may have to cut the prop off. The inner part of the prop is likely bronze, which is softer than the prop shaft. This can be carefully cut away with a hacksaw (power or manual), or a dremel.

Heat the prop hub (the part in contact with the shaft) and it will come off. You will then need to have the prop rebuilt to replace the singed rubber that connects the hub to the prop.

I just had the same problem and that is exactly what I had to do,go get you a puller deep enough to get on the back of your prop and tighten it down till its gets hard to turn then heat with a little torch on the hub then tighten the puller till the resistence gets hard then more heat do this as many times as it takes and you will get it off, good luck
