prop won't turn

This is a new-to-me 1966 3-hp, 20" folding-shaft Evinrude. I bought it on eBay and there is no manual. The engine starts and runs. For whatever reason, the prop does not turn. There appears to be no "Forward" button or lever that I can find. I can turn the prop by hand although it is a bit stiff. Suggestions? My local Evinrude dealer is too busy to return my calls about this. Thanks for your responses ahead of time.

The joint in the driveshaft at the fold has broken.<br /><br />Yes, there is a manual. You just don't have it yet. <br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks for the response, JB. I'll take it apart and check it out. Here's hoping you're wrong 'cuz I doubt I'll find parts!

Carman,<br /><br />Loosen the screws that hold the folding portion of the lower unit together.<br /><br />Fold up the unit.<br /><br />Inspect both ends of the drive shaft. There should be a coupler that connects the shafts. It usually sticks to the upper shaft. If it's not there, you will have to get a new one.
