Prop?

I am currently running a 24 raker 3 blade prop on my 98' (200 HP) Johnson Venom. At WOT I run about 5700 rpm's. However, in turns it seems to lose a lot of bite as if the prop is getting air. Some people have told me that a 4 blade prop would cure this problem, but I might lose some of my top end. I was just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions or ideas. If you would recommend a 4 blade prop, would I have to go to a different pitch and what brand would you recommend. Also, what will a 4 blade prop do to my speed and gas mileage. Thanks in advance.

Re: Prop?

When I first bought my '96 Javelin 189 F/S with a 175 Johnson and a jack plate it had a 3 blade raker. It had no hole shot and would not keep the boat on plane when pulling a tuber in the low to mid 20's. Skiing was ok closer to 30 but still a struggle to get up. The dealer put a Renegade 4 blade high-rake OMC prop on it with exhaust ports and it made all the difference and has done well over the years. No trouble in the turns and it holds well. I did lose a couple of mph so it would only do 70 mph after that. I'm not sure about the fuel economy before vs after. It also made the steering much better because there were times you had to hold the wheel in a death grip. You might call Power Tech because they have several different 4 blade props and they can help spec one for you and then you can find one of their dealers to order it from. I've bought two 4 blade props from them for other boats and wouldn't go anywhere else.

With my 20ft boat I Went from a 14.5/19-3 to a 14/18-4, I get a much better hole shot and not really losing much on top end, maybe one or two miles MPH, Yes my three blade was getting air and I always seem to have four or more on board. Hope this helps.
