I am purchasing a 1983 28' carver mariner. It has an old alcholl stove, I hate alcholl! I would like to change it to something else, have heard propane is the way to go. Does anyone know of any site that would help me on how to do it, the CG regs, and any dangers. Anyone with some experiance with this i would appreciate your input! Thanks

Re: Propane conversion??

When I got mine, it had alcohol also. I used it a couple of seasons. Yeah, it takes forever to heat anything and is a pain to deal with at times. I then started researching to convert to propane. I never did even though it can be done. I was more affraid of a leak which can be serious on a boat. No chances for me. I've got grandkids and you never know what they are up to at times. I just put a hot plate in and use a generator. I now have shore power which makes things a whole lot nicer. I do have a propane grill on a shelf over my swim platform. I made it big enough where I can use an electric skillet (which is the best overall way to cook on a boat IMO) and a deep fryer.

I prefer cooking outside since it seems to really smoke and grease up the inside. About all I make inside anymore is coffee and toast.

From what I gathered from the guy that did our boats survey, your propane tank must vent to the outside and the line that feeds your stove must be one piece.
(since we have no place to permanently mount a 10 pound tank, I could always put it out on the swim grid)

One thing that is in favor of alcohol. An alcohol fire is readily extinguished with water, which is the one commodity that is in the greatest supply around a boat.
