The propeller on my 1973 7.5 hp is stamped with 7P A1. Can anyone tell me what it means? I am looking for a spare prop and want to make sure I get the right one. I have seen 8 3/8 x 8, 9 x 9, and 9 x 10 for this motor. What do I need?

Thanks,

Re: Propeller i.d.

The 7P means that the prop has a pitch of 7 inches. That means it will move forward 7 inches for each revolution, without any slip. Often props are referred to by their diameter and pitch, like 8?? x 7", or 9" x 10".... The diameter is usually a function of the pitch and the props efficiency. The standard prop that was supplied with that engine was 8?? x 7"....

If you are putting the engine on something small and little, you need a prop with a higher pitch... like a 9" x 10"....

Re: Propeller i.d.

Thanks for the info Chris.

I am putting it on a 12 foot jon boat that will be loaded down pretty good with duck hunting gear mostly.

What pitch would you recommend for that?

Also, my local prop shop sells 9 1/4 inch by 9 or 10 pitch props. Will a 9 1/4 fit?

Thanks,

Re: Propeller i.d.

Found an 8 3/8 x 8 prop. It's a genuin Merc part. Seller says it's for 7.5 and 9.8 HP motors.

How well will it work compared to the 8 3/4 x 7 prop on a small jon boat?
