Hi,

I have a 14X19 prop on my boat and the WOT is perfect with it. However, my holeshot sucks. Would going to a 15X17 (14X17 had great holeshot but over-revved at WOT) keep my WOT Rpm's about the same?

OMC Cobra 3.0, 1988.

Thanks!

Re: Propeller Question

Huminski, I have a 1986 Cobra 3.0 with similar circumstances. My 14 x 17 revs around 4800 with great hole shot...my 13 x 19 slower on the take off but revs 4600.

Consider a hydrofoil or smart tabs(preferred)to get your boat on plane in 1/3 the time. Your hole shot will be much better.

A vented prop may also help your situation.

Re: Propeller Question

Been thinking about the smart tabs. I'm not unhappy about the time it takes to get on plane really. I just miss the way the 14X17 would really push you into the seat if you nailed it, let alone the holeshot I had with the 14X15 that was on there when I bought the boat. :) Couldn't go near WOT with that one, though, it would do 4500rpm at what seemed like 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.

Re: Propeller Question

My 16 ft reached for the stars on acceleration without the hydrofoil on. That's a lot of wasted effort. It feels a lot faster with the hydrofoil because the push is more forward than up.

Yeah my 19 stays pretty flat if I have the motor trim all the way down. I'm happy with that. I can easily raise the bow up if the chop picks up though. I just miss the punch off the line, that's all.

Bondo, I had heard of the Torque shift, but never knew anyone who bought one. Is yours made by Mercury? Are they still available? Does it really downshift if you cut and then quickly advance the throttle?

Mine is a Land & Sea.......
Yes, They're Available.......
They have a website....
They're Very Expencive.....
(Unless you shop ebay)
Mine is Progressive.....
Merc.'s is a 2 Speed.....
I never Tried to Chop,+ Slam the Throttle.......
Once you get the hang of it,
You can Slow down,+ Not Shift, if you want too.....
If the boat has slowed, you Can shift it down....
And, If you Stop, It's in Low Gear......
