I just repowered my fully restored 1984 Welcraft Elite 200 with a rebuilt 350 which is supposed to have 280 HP. Before the repowered I was running a Mercruiser 228 with a oversized (15.25") stainless 17 prop. I have a alpha 1.48 drive. I thought I remember getting 28-29mph(gps) at @ 3k rpm which amounts to @ 11-14% slip.

I put an aluminum (14.25 x 19) prop to test assuming with extra hp I should fly. I am in break in period and have not opened it up but at 3k rpms I am only doing @ 25-26mph which amounts to @30% slip.

I know I can't determine to much w/o WOT but wanted to know what my numbers so far tell you about what I will need. Is it possible to go up in pitch and down in speed?

Any input is appreciated

Thanks

Re: Propeller Question

Hows the aluminum prop look? Aluminum does bend when your putting torque on it. With that power and your boat, I would think you should be able to turn a 21p with 280hp. I would also get a stainless for that matter. Just for a piece of mind... My 18ft powerplay(heavy for its size) at stock 260 could turn a 21 mirage plus 4800rpm at 55mph.

Get a stainless 21p
