Re: propeller shaft strut bearing question
I have had several inboards over 40+ years of boating I've never had any vibration problems from a strut bearing and never checked clearance.Boats ranged from yard wrecks rescued from the scrapper to a 70 year old relatively low hour boat.
If you suspect a bearing related vibration I would suggest a new bearing.
These were older styled boats with a max rpm of about 3,500. I would eliminate shaft runout and any prop defects before a bearing replacement, unless there is noticeable shaft movement within the bearing.
