Hi all,
I just bought a boat with a 45 hp chrysler, I believe it was made in 1976-78. It runs fine and will move if you start slow but if you give it a little more gas it loses thrust. Someone told me their is a rubber sleeve or something in the lower unit that could cause this. Just looking for a second opinion before i take it apart. Thanks,

Rich

Re: Propeller slipping??

Easy test. Get a laundry marker (waterproof) and remove the prop. Mark a line on the prop hub and rubber sleeve and outter hub. Re-install and try it under load. After it has "slipped" remove and check the alignment marks. If they don't match anymore you need to visit a prop repair shop th have the hub replaced.

If the marks have not moved then other problems have to be looked at. Is the motor mounted all the way down on the transom? What is the distance from the cavatation plate to the bottom of the boat? Try the laundry maker first and we will be able to help you.

Bob :)
