I have a 1994 Glastron SSv175 powered by a 120HP Volvo Penta motor and SP drive unit. I was looking to replace my chewed up old propeller with a new one but so far I have had very little luck finding anything online for the part number C851138, and there are no other markings on the prop what so ever besides that one part number. I would like a little more top speed for the boat, but nothing too drastic....however the main thing is I find the right prop for the boat since I can't seem any new propellers that cross reference to this old part number.

An online check shows that number as being a 14X21L(for left hand rotation). :

Thanks for your help. The boat runs comfortably around 3,900-4,000 RPM (where I normally run) but tops out 100-150 rpm before redline. I have cruised at 4200-4400 but to me it seems like that like that little motor is wound up an aweful lot and there is very little difference in speed between the two.

If your motor turns WOT of 4400 rpm, you are doing fine. I wouldn't change a thing. :)

Sorry my post was misleading I would say I'm actually closer to 4900 at WOT. Im not home right now but I think the redline on my boat starts at 5k and I am just shy of that by 100 rpm.

I would confirm the accuracy of your tachometer before doing anything else.

Foxmb87, can you give us the exact motor id you have? Or a pic of the engine maybe? A VP with 120hp is a little vague, and if it is a Volvo engine then the rpm range is higher than the GM 3.0l. Can't really go by the year of the boat.

I will have to get that information tomorrow when its light out. I believe it is a 2.0 or a 2.3L I'm not quite sure I actually just got the boat less than a week ago so I am still learning about it myself. It looks to me like it is a single over head cam carbed motor, similar to what you might find in a volvo passenger car. The boat red lines at 4900 and I can run it all the way up to that point...and possibly further if I kept pushing it. I believe in my last post I claimed my RPM was a bit lower, that is because I today figured out how to work the trim properly and I wasn't pushing water with the bow of my boat like I was the last time out. Before having it out on the water today I cleaned the burrs off the prop and straightened it out a bit, really it isn't in terrible shape I probably make it sound worse than it really is. I maybe wrong but I don't think cavitation is an issue.

It is important to get the exact motor designation. Some of the 4 cylinders had top RPM range of 4600-5000 and some had 4800-5500. They all had 2.15 drive ratios I believe.

Some of these are older model years (number after the slash is drive type), but for example...

AQ125B/270
Ratio 2.15:1 4600?5000 RPM

AQ131/275, 230/SP MT
Ratio 2.15:1 4600?5000 RPM

AQ131/290, 230/SP
Ratio 2.15:1 4600?5000 RPM

AQ145B/290
Ratio 2.15:1 4800?5500 RPM

AQ151/290, 250/SP
Ratio 2.15:1 4800?5500 RPM

If your engine has the 4600-5000 range then the numbers you gave are good with a 21 pitch prop in good shape. It may not be biting as hard as it could though, so if you did fix it the RPM's may drop some for the same top speed.

I am not sure what the "C" prefix means.

Volvo superceded part numbers along the way.

14x21 pitch LH prop part Number: 854288, Replaced by: 854978
14x19 pitch LH prop part Number: 851138, Replaced by: 854979

I wrote down about any numbers I could find on the engine if there is a specific place to look let me know and I will see if I can locate it.
-The air cleaner shows 230
-The valve cover there is a faded sticker that says:
2303US
2200026412
868534
-The out drive is labled SP CD trim
-The Tachometer starts redline at 4,900 and ends at 6,000 (more realistically 5,500)

Good deal, I have what I believe to be the correct tech data attached for your 230B.

Thanks, Ill be sure to save that for future reference. Is the 14x21 a good prop to run on this boat/engine combination or could I possibly run a 14x22 or 14x23 since I can nearly run the boat all the way to red line.

What speed can you achieve at the top WOT RPM? If we have that a slip% can be calced and maybe we can tell if the current prop condition is letting the engine rev more than if a new prop was used.

I guess the next time out on the lake I will need to bring my GPS and see, but I would say top speed is no more than 35 mph. My gauge is currently broken, so that is just a rough guess. The prop doesn't look too bad to me, there really is only one blade is only missing any material and it just has a small nick out of it about half the size of a dime.
