Re: propeller

From what I understand it doesn't really matter what kind of prop you buy. As long as the splines match your shaft and the diameter so it hit your cavitation plate. 2 bladed props will give you highter top speed, and a 4 bladed prop will give you increased take-off Same holds true with the different pitches and rakes. I will warn you, the wrong prop can damage you engine. You need to find the max rpm of your motor and pick a prop accordingly. I'm sorry I didn't have the same motor as you, but someone in here does. Hopefully they will chine in and tell you what they are running. Hope this helps.

Re: propeller

You really don't provide enough information. We need to know the years of the engines and the hull size. Props are defined by diameter and pitch. While the diameter is usually the same on like model engines, the pitch varies with horsepower and size of boat.

That said: If the two engines are of similar years say each one before 1994 or each after 1994 the prop from the 85 will fit on the 125. It may. fit, but it may not give the best performance. You also need to consider if one of the engines is dual exhaust and one single exhaust. Again, the props will FIT but an dual exhaust engine needs a through hub prop, not a closed hub one.

So, come back with your engine years, your boat size and the diameter and pitch of the props and you will get a better answer.

Re: propeller

I replaced my 2000 115hp mercury 2 stroke 19pitch to solas amitia three blade 17 and lost performance belive it. Went from 45mph to 40 and a vibration started. Not recommending solas.

Re: propeller

The prop you are buying has a # stamped on it somewhere. If it's a Force prop the # is stammped on the side between the blades. It will be a 15-17-19 If it looks like your old prop it will probably fit.Post a pic.The # might be painted over.Post a pic.J

Re: propeller

I have an 89 125 hp Force myself. I found the number 692 on my prop and from that found out I have OEM 48FP692-1 prop. That's original equipment and Michigan prop for it is 072127. I once bought a stainless steel prop off Ebay and didn't lock it on good. It's now at bottom of the lake  I found out that prop takes a locking nut to hold it on. There's no cotter pin or locking washer for it. My prop is a 13.5 (diameter) X 15 inch pitch. I have yet to find out what changing the pitch does but I've been told not to stray too far from original pitch. You will need to count splines in the shaft too.

Re: propeller

On my 18' Bayliner with a 120 Force I used a 19" pitch prop for watersports and a 21" pitch prop if it was just me and the wife cruising around. Your boat should be in the same range. You really need to look at a tachometer and make sure you're not over-revving your motor. WOT on my Force was supposed to be 5200 RPM max if I remember correctly.
